New ISP Provider

So last year about this time we were able to switch our ISP from Time Warner Cable to a local company called Greenlight Networks . To me it wasn't about just getting rid of Time Warner Cable, but rather knowing that the Technology that I was buying was more robust than the Coax service that Time Warner would be providing.

Monitoring Thoughts

So for the last few years we have been working on developing the monitoring of our network. When I was first hired I was asked to look into what we might use. We were using What's Up Gold, but it had aged and wasn't being kept up. We were also using MRTG, but not on all of our links. Of course all the usually suspects showed up in all of my Google searches:

  • Nagios
  • Zenoss
  • Cacti
  • Zabbix

Then there were two that I hadn't seen before.

YEAH Blender!!!!

Okay, okay, okay, so I am not any type of artist at this stage in my life. I dream about being able to draw so that I can do some neat things with the computer. Unfortunately the amount of time and skill it takes to become a decent artist are things that I lack at this time. Though I do try!

More Work on the House

If anyone had checked the weekend of November 8th they may have noticed that the website was up and down a bit. Well for good reason. My friend Danny Wegman and I finished running network cable, CAT 6 to be specific, in the house. Yes I have installed networking throughout my house.

Once we had drilled a bunch of holes, chanted a few choice words, and with Dan's expertise we managed to finish up the wiring. I am so excited that I can now get some speed behind a few of my machines. Some of you may be asking "Why didn't you just go wireless Tadge?" Well for good reasons!
