So I have been working in education now for 7 years plus. My primary role has been as someone who works with teachers helping them make decisions on how to use technology in the classroom. Over the past 7 years I have been the primary administrator of my computer. As of late we have been going through some changes in our organization (3 years of changes...), and one recently was the implementation of active directory services and Altiris implementations. Knowing this was coming I have prepared for some changes, but no where near what I have expected.
So for about 4 hours on a Friday evening a few of us decided to conduct a conversation about learning and school. The problem for me with these broad concepts if often articulating what I mean at times, which can be compounded by not being allowed to speak.
Lately I have been having a time trying to come to terms with what role technology has in schools. There is a gamut of reasons why people see technology as valuable. Just as there are a number of different positions to how people learn and how people should teach.
I personally think that at this time in my life this is where I see all of these things shaking out for me.
So here I am the first time in a few years a simple participant at the NYSCATE Conference. I have been really enjoying the experience, but I have also started to reflect on what I have been doing the last few year. I am starting to need a chance to work on my own self directed learning. I have been thinking about this for at least a year or so, and trying to define in my head what it is I want to do.
